WE DID IT!

Updated: Oct 6, 2020

Last Friday, as the rain fell, Team Anywise joined roughly 3500 participants taking part in the 30km Wild Women on Top Coastrek Challenge in support of the Fred Hollows Foundation.

A scenic Pt Nepean round trek taking in some of Melbourne’s most beautiful coastline views, parts of the Peninsula some of us had not seen let alone walked before!

We set off with a spring in our step, excitement in the air and clouds looming….. Not even the rain could dampen our spirits!!

In my mind 30kms sounded reasonable, an extended stroll….. Turns out I was in denial! it proved to be so much tougher than I could have imagined! While the views were spectacular the narrow bush tracks, the thigh burning soft sand and the stairs….(so many stairs) nearly got the better of me! I guess it would hardly have been a challenge if it didn’t push you to your limits, you might say it was gruelling (I know I certainly did!)

But we made it across the line, as a team, a little over 6hrs after we started and I couldn’t feel prouder!! Especially after we had the chance to talk live with Meaghan, our other Director, who was in the Fred Hollows office in Kenya providing training whole we were walking.

Hard not to feel inspired to achieve with an amazing support crew cheering you along… Thank you Peta, Jarrod, June and Will, we couldn’t have done it without you….. and thank you for delivering us the best salad rolls this side of Texas!! (13kms in and to be honest, I would’ve eaten anything!).

It was such an incredible feeling to be among so many people, all there, pushing themselves for the same purpose, to help end avoidable blindness! The Fred Hollows Foundation does such great work and it felt good to be part of a community event raising money for this cause.

To all those who showed their support and donated to us, thank you so much. We really are changing lives!!

Team Anywise has raised over $3500 to date, bringing the Melbourne Coastrek fundraising tally upwards of $1.8M (so far) a figure we can all be immensely proud of!

Finally…. Fantastic effort by all!! Thank you Annie, Adam and Colleen for making my work day one of the best yet!! We make a pretty good team!

Now for the next challenge…….

For those who have yet to make a donation, there is still time to get behind this great cause.
